got the new battery on and it took a couple turns but the buggy turned over and fired up. i guess the new battery has a lot more juice cause now the starter will kinda whine before the motor turns over, where as with the old battery when you turn the ignition on and held it for one sec, the motor would just crank right up and you wouldn't hear the starter at all, now doing the same starting procedure, the starter spins up fast, motor turns over and the starter still runs for a half a sec or less.
ya don't think there is any issues with the starter do you? buggy seems to run just fine though, as before the new battery, when the buggy came to a stop, the motor would slow down and kinda wanna stall, but it doesn't do that now.
hope all is well, fixing to head to the parts store to fix my battery up with a quick disconnect like you did talonman so i can hook up the trickle charger without the battery hooked up to the electrical system and i don't have to remove the battery to charge it.
thanks for the idea _________________ //kneehighspy

I don't have a good responce to the odd starter noise....
I want to say my starter only made an odd noise when my battery was week, but yours is turning faster now wich indicates a stronger battery. Ya got me hanging...
It is nice to not to have to unload the battery, if you just want to top it's charge off a bit. I just keep the charger next to where I park my buggy, and can hook it up as soon as the muffiler cools down a tad. With the quick disconnects to the buggy, you get a good charge withought the buggy even in the circut. I unplug the buggy, and can quick connect my charger in all of about 10 sec. It incourages me to keep my battery fresh. I think the 'battery charging' capabilities of my 2004 Talon is week.
I don't think we are talking near 1 amp charging power being generated by my buggy.....
yeah that's basically what i want to be able to do, just do a quick disconnect and then hook up the charger. went looking for the parts today and no one had them. so I'm gonna order them from my usual electrical / electronics suppliers, i know they have them.
i checked the voltage while the buggy was running and it flipped between 13.64 and 13.65, so that shows me the buggy is at least charging the battery while running.
i may have a fuel / filter issue now, man i think the problems are gonna get worse the more i ride this thing. i was riding the buggy up the street after running on the trails near my house and the buggy died, restarted and died again, rolled the buggy back a bit to turn around, tried starting it and it started and ran just fine to the house, tried several times after i parked it and it started up and ran just fine.
i really can't see any fuel in the little fuel filter, i did earlier, but now i don't. i hate to sound dumb, but the arrow on the petcock switch does indicate fuel flow direction right? i know you can turn it up all the way, to the middle and all the way down. i don't see any difference any way i move it, and the buggy still starts up and runs in any position, so i guess if i accidentally turned the fuel off, it's running on whats in the carburetor or fuel lines?
I'm gonna remove the line from the petcock to the filter in the morning to make sure fuel is coming out the petcock. does the engine provide vacuum to draw the fuel from the tank?
i hate to really ask dumb questions, but i really want to get more knowledge and be able to support myself with any problems i have or maintenance i want to do.
you and glade have helped me tremendously and i appreciate it very much. would it help to buy a service manual for the engine? would any cn250 service manual work?
thanks again! _________________ //kneehighspy

That is a good idea about checking the voltage at the battery with the buggy running. I have never done that before but surely will....
My fuel filter was not filling up until I changed the angle of my fuel line so it is all down hill to the carb. The line was running more horizontal where my fuel filter was, and it would only fill the filter about 1/4 of the way. Now it is 90% full all the time. Due to me using 1/4" fuel line, and a clear fule filter made for 1/4" fuel line that is full all the time, I don't worry if my tank and petcock combo can supply fuel fast enouigh to the carb. I can see it, and know the filter is always full, and nothin but downhill 1/4" line the rest of the way to the carb.

ok, the problem was the voltage regulator was bad causing voltage to always go to the choke assy. causing battery drain. changed regulator and problem went away....
