Wow, what a bummer. I have argued in many forums about limiting the width of trails, and now I know why.

I have not been to chadwick, but I have been to suttons bluff outside flat river. It has 50" limitations on the trails, but we can ride all of the numbered forest roads we want...supposed to be about 2 million acres.

St. Joe St. Park does not currently regulate the width either, it is about 2000 square acres for atv and ohv use. This is out of Bonne terre MO.

I am out of St. Louis, so it sounds like I am on the other side of the state from you. If you ever head out this way, send me a line. Wink

Chris

The funny thing is some atv's are over 50" wide.

I 've heard about St.Joe from some of my old 6 wheeler buds. It wasn't tough enough for them, I think not enough water-mud for them to try to conquer. I think there is another place up in Ill.in Rockport I think. As far as a ride let's set something up, is St. Joe open all year? Or should we wait for spring?

And when I mentioned the width thing to the friendly park ranger....... he said and I quote " If it has handle-bars we will look the other way". d'oh!

And so far I have still not received a reply from either state's official's.nor from the Corps. So far on the phone The only answer I get is....that is what the towns folk and 4 wheeler riders wanted. I 'm not done with these people yet.

I've heard a rumor with no official backing yet,but the CORPS may be changing their ruling on deepwater. As soon as I can get someone to confirm it,I'll let you all know.

Supposedly they will let buggies in,But so far no official confimation.

This is still on the their site:

"An ATV is a motorized vehicle having a maximum width of 50 inches, designed to be operated off-road, with handle-bars for steering, and a seat that is straddled by the operator."

http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/harryst/off_road.htm

Wetsu - Have you talked to anyone at the CORPS? Why do you think they may be changing their policy? Anything we could do to help?

I have also been to that site, and it will not accept an Email from me. And no this is coming from a group called Missouri Mudslingers. I'm not even sure they are for real. Supposedly this group has been pushing to change the ruling. And it was allegedly supposed to take affect in June. But don't load up your buggy yet! Until I know for sure I'm not.
I'll keep you posted.

Mike
